Hello all members, as we continue to experience winter weather condition the Township of Langley fields remain closed for today and likely the next few days. We will monitor the weather and will advise daily as we move through the week.
On Saturday, November 19th, Providence University College Pilots Women’s Soccer team won their first national title at the NCCAA Division II Championships in Kissimmee, Florida. In the final, they played against the Great Lakes College Crusaders, who were considered the number one team to beat, winning 2-0.
There are five LUSA Alumnae on the team with three in the starting lineup:
Amalia Major was recognized as Goal Keeper of the tournament and got a shutout at the national final.
Jordyn Briggs – Scored the 2nd goal in the national final
Chloe Jahn – Captain of Providence and was recognized as an all-tournament player at nationals (Chloe is the daughter of our former LUSA President)
Harmony Pack – freshman played 30 minutes in the Semi-Final
Holly Fullerton – Freshman didn’t play.
“From day one us coaches preached buying in and enjoying the process of growing and learning together, the team trusted us and this group has only gotten better each day. It is a coaches dream to have commitment and buy in like that. We have known for a while now that this team was a special group and winning the programs first national championship just proves that. It has been such a joy and honor to coach this team and I am beyond proud. A special thank you to all the players for their commitment to each other and to constantly growing and learning. Team Captain Chloe Jahn shares: “I can’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling right now. I’m speechless. Coach has been preaching how special this group is from the start, and it couldn’t be truer! What a way to end the year. I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this team. History. Made.”
LUSA Coach Shane Yarwood shares his memories coaching the girls during their time with the club.
“I had the pleasure of coaching The LUSA girls from U12 until they went off to Prov. I would bring Harmony & Holly up to play for my 2003 team when I need players. Their work ethic and skill made them my 1st choice to be called up. Both Girls great attitudes so when Prov called me looking for a couple players they were easy suggestions.
Chloe, Molly & Jordyn played big roles in the success of the 2000 born team going to back to back Provincial tournaments. Chloe was my captain and lead by example and came up huge in big games. Molly was my left mid that made herself versatile and allowed me to use her as a backup keeper So when Prov contacted me asking if I knew of any keepers available I suggested Molly. I told the coach she was very raw but would do anything to make her team successful and that is what she did for Prov in National tournament. Jordyn was from my 2003 team that I brought up to my 2000 team for cup & provincials because of her heart & work ethic. Jordyn was by far the smallest every game but played like she was 6’ tall. The greatest thing is they are all so proud to represent Langley United and tell everyone who will listen that they are LUSA YELLOW AND BLUE
It has been amazing to watch these young ladies grow into young adults.”
Belgium, Canada, Croatia, and Morocco comprise a World Cup group which could produce any combination of knockout rounds entrants, even if there’s a sincere favorite.
Roberto Martinez’s loaded Belgium, ranked No. 2 in the world by FIFA, will be widely-ticketed to emerge out of World Cup 2022’s Group F, with Kevin De Bruyne capable of putting a Ballon d’Or on his mantle with a strong individual and team performance.
But Croatia’s got tournament acumen, Canada’s coming off the best front-to-back performance in CONCACAF qualifying, and Morocco has the stars at the back and front to win in any number of fashions.

Joel Waterman began playing soccer at age five with Aldergrove Youth Soccer Club, At age 12, he joined Langley United Soccer Association. Afterwards, he played with Surrey United. When he was 13, he was selected for British Columbia provincial team where he was coached by our current technical director Mark Parker.

In 2014, he began attending Trnity Western University, where he played for the mns soccer team. Ahead of his fifth season, he was named the team captain and helped them win a Canada West silver medal and finished fourth at the National Championship. He was also named a Canada West First Team All Star that season.
At the 2018 CPL-U-Sports Draft, Waterman was drafted in the second round by Calgary Cavalry FC November 13, 2018. He officially signed with the club on February 6, 2019. Waterman made his professional debut for Cavalry in their inaugural game against York 9 FC on May 4. He scored his first goal for Cavalry on October 5 against Halifax FC. He helped Cavalry win the Spring and Fall championships and helped them reach the CPL finals, where they finished second.
On January 14, 2020, Waterman transferred to Major League Soccer club Montreal with this transfer, Waterman made history as the first ever player from the Canadain Premier League to be sold to an MLS club. He made his debut for the Impact on February 19 against Saprissa in a CONCACAF Champions League match. He made his MLS debut for the Impact in their season opener against the New England Revolution on February 29.
Upon completion of the 2021 MLS season CF Montréal announced that they would be exercising the option on Waterman’s contract for 2022. In 2022, he became a regular starter for the club. During the 2022 season, he scored his first goal for Montreal against Orlando City on May 7, netting the opener in an eventual 4-1 victory. On August 4, he scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew.
He was called up to the Canadian senior mens for the first time for a national team camp in January 2021. He earned several more call-ups to the squad during 2021 and 2022. On November 11, 2022, he made his debut for Canada in a friendly against Bahrain in a warmup game for the FIFA 2022 World Cup. On November 13, Waterman was officially named to Canada’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Chelsey was seleted to recognize her contributuion as a positive leader, coach and mentor to the Langley soccer community. Many of you know her in her role as Assistant Technical Director for LUSA, but she is also a mentor coach with BC Soccer, a former regional Excel Program coach, and League1 BC Head Coach at TSS Rovers. Chelsey is also an active member of Canucks Autism and has worked with disabled bodied athletes. Join us in congratulating Chelsey for being named to the 2022 Canadian Premier League VW Game changers starting XI!
